John Gilliat Image

John Gilliat - Guitar: John has dedicated himself to a world beat fusion of rumba flamenco, rock and Latin jazz. In 1995 he won "Best Instrumental Acoustic Guitar Performance" in the Music West Star Frets Competition, won Vancouver's Unplugged Competition in 1996 and in 1997 was a finalist in Vancouver's Global StarQuest. In May of 1999 John released his first independent instrumental CD titled "Freedom". His follow-up album "Peace" was nominated for the West Coast Music Awards "Best Instrumental Release" in 2002.

John released his latest CD in Japan and Canada titled "Beyond Boundaries". The new CD continues to offer new direction and contemporary expression to Nouveau Flamenco, Flamenco Rumba and Jazz. He has toured Canada, the United States, and Japan. Including performances at Japan's Expo 2005 and performing for Canada's former Prime Minister Jean Chretien. John's recordings have been used for radio, documentaries, TV and film in North America, Japan, Ireland and the UK. John also performs with Vancouver's very exciting hot club gypsy jazz quartet Gypsalero.

Andre Stepanian Image

Andre Stepanian - Guitar: Andre is a versatile and accomplished guitarist and composer. Andre has been influenced by the wide variety of musical styles that he listened to including rock, blues, jazz and flamenco. While in college, he met fellow guitarist Martin Simpson and the two formed the dynamic Latin jazz band, Alma Libre. The band has released two very successful CD's. Some highlights in Alma Libre's history have included opening for the Rite of Strings ( Al DiMeola, Stanley Clarke and Jean-Luc Ponty) at

the 1995 Vancouver du Maurier Jazz Festival, performing with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 1997, a 2001 West Coast Music Award Nomination for "Best World Release" & "Best Instrumental Release", as well as many song placements in movies and television.

Brent Gubbels Image

Brent Gubbels - Bass Guitar: Brent studied music at Capilano College and took private lessons with Rene Worst, Tom Hazlitt and David Brown. Brent has performed folk, roots, jazz and Latin music with artists such as Oscar Lopez, James Keelaghan, Susan Crowe, Sandy Scofield, Dal Richards, Lowry Olafson, Miles Black, Brad Turner, Gypsalero, George McFetridge, The Hard Rubber Orchestra, Tony Wilson, Chris Gestrin, Daryl Jahnke, Fantazea, and many others. Since 1992, he has toured North America and Europe extensively and played a variety of international jazz and folk

festivals. Brent can be heard on recordings by Oscar Lopez, Gypsalero, Juno nominees Susan Crowe and Compadres, Juno winner James Keelaghan, and many others.

Emad Amoush Image

Emad Armoush - Percussion & Guitar: Emad is a Vancouver based Flamenco and Arabic musician from Syria. He began by studying Flamenco guitar, but his love for the music expanded his endeavours to playing other instruments from around the Mediterranean, such as: the Flamenco rhythm box "Cajon", Arabic drums such as "Dumbak" and "Daf", and the Arabic reed flute "Nay". He is well known as a Flamenco percussionist, singer, and guitarist. He has appeared and recorded on CBC Radio, Zed TV, and performed at the Vancouver Folk Festival, Mondo Music, the

Dragon Boat Festival, the Harmony Art Festival, the Showcase 2003 of Global Discoveries at the Roundhouse Community Centre, and at many other venues in British Columbia. He has also performed with the international group called "Flamenco Flow" fusing Flamenco and Hip Hop dance.

Lyndon Dewitt - Drums & Percussion: Lyndon enrolled and started studying with Bill Williams who taught him to listen and enjoy what he was playing. Then enrolling in the "Douglas College Music Program", he had a chance to take "one on one" lessons with Vancouver's great "Sal Ferreras". There he was taught the finer points of theory and control. Lyndon's inspiration is drawn from many great and diverse drummers such as the late Buddy Rich, Stewart Copland and Neil Peart (his list is endless). Of all these, Lyndon

credits the style of "Stewart Copland", showing him the creativity in playing. And that pushing the limits of style and creativity will enhance your playing ability.
